Hello ISNP Upper Campus Students and Families,

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Dayis a national event held each year on the fourth Thursday of April. This year the date of the event will be April 27. The event provides students in grades 3-12 an introduction to business and commerce, allows them to observe men and women in a variety of roles and responsibilities and reinforces the importance of teamwork and diversity in the workplace.

Activities may include shadowing parents or guardians at their workplace, interviewing managers, or engaging in presentations provided by employers. Imagine School at North Port joins Sarasota County School District in recognizing this national celebration. Your student’s participation will be counted as an excused absence if your employer signs the form linkedHERE,and you or your child return the form to the front office.

Students and parents, remember that FAST and EOC testing begins May 1. If you are not doing so already, be sure to take advantage of the additional opportunities for review and practice provided by our teachers during before and after school camps. See the Testing and Camp Information section below for details.

Enjoy your week!

Principal, ISNP Upper Campus

From Ms. Walden:

On Tuesday, April 11, fifty-nine Band & Choir students andtwelve adult chaperones left ISNP to travel to New York City, where we had 5 incredible days of doing just about everything there is to do in New York City! We experienced: Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Gayle's Broadway Rose Singing Restaurant, the Tick Tock Diner (the largest diner in New York), the Harry Potter Store and Butterbeer, Chinatown, Little Italy, Chelsea Market, the High Line, Rockefeller Center Plaza and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Ellis Island and the Immigration Museum, Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, the 911 Memorial, Grand Central Station, the 3-story Starbucks Reserve Bar and several days of New York pizza, hot dogs, and classic New York food.

We also had the opportunity to participate in workshops with a cast member from Aladdin on Broadway, the Music Director of Wicked, the Music Director of Hadestown, and the Music Director of Six where they taught us the music and choreography for Broadway songs. On Friday night, wesaw Aladdin in the New Amsterdam Theater on Broadway. After the show, we were invited to meet the full Broadway cast for autographs and pictures.

We made it back to North Port at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 16. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance! A few of the many pictures we took are attached above.

From Dr. Evans:

Students in my science classes are learning about the rock cycle and the three main types of rocks. Last week, they looked at the layers found in sedimentary rocks and were excited to discover that sedimentary rocks are fossils as well.

Essentially, the students were amateur paleontologists. After identifying the layers in the lithosphere, finding out that the oldest layers were at the bottom, and defining cementation and compaction, they dugand brushed to discover dinosaur fossils and other organisms which once were alive, hidden in the layers!

From Mr. Baumgartner:

Students in my Marine Science 1 Honors classgot up close and personal with sharks this past week as a culmination of their shark unit. They dissected 30-inch Dogfish that fall into orderSqualiformes. The studentsreviewed external and internal anatomy, classifiedthe sharks using dichotomouskeys, and compared shark internal anatomy to the human body.

We were lucky this year. We found four different females that were pregnant. Each had embryos in different stages of development. The kids really enjoyed the dissection.
